TERMS OF REFERENCE AND DUTIES OF CLUB COMMITTEE MEMBER RESPONSIBLE FOR COMPETITIONS AND HANDICAPS

To define terms of reference and duties for the Club Committee Member responsible for Competitions and Handicaps.

Terms of Reference


The Club Committee Member responsible for Competitions and Handicaps is responsible for the efficient running of all golf fixtures, competitions and matches, and of the handicapping system.


Principal responsibilities


The Club Committee Member responsible for Competitions and Handicaps:

  • Liaises with the Secretary and DOG in connection with the compilation of the annual fixture list, including all league matches
  • Ensures all competitions comply with the rules as stipulated and also the Rules of Golf
  • Co-opts the assistance of members, to be agreed by the Committee, as necessary to ensure the smooth running of all competitions, events and matches
  • Creates a policy for team selection and appoints team co-ordinators
  • Arranges the selection and posting of teams well in advance  - normally 2 weeks prior to the fixture date
  • Appoints team captains as necessary
  • At all times promotes high standards of etiquette and sportsmanship
  • Determines competition entry fees, sweeps, etc in liaison with the Secretary and Director of Golf
  • Co-ordinates the selection of prizes, awards and prize vouchers with the DOG
  • Annually reviews the policies and programme with regard to rules, entry fees, etc
  • Establishes methods and procedures to discourage slow play, and co-ordinates with the Captain on disciplinary measures against offenders
  • Deals with any complaint resulting from competitions and / or matches. Also deals with requests for extensions of matches.
  • In liaison with other sections and the Secretary, plans the programme for the following year
  • Is responsible, with the DOG, for the efficient operation of the handicapping system, including ad hoc and annual reviews as necessary.

RESPONSIBLE TO:            Captain


PURPOSE:                        To be responsible for the organisation, efficient running and rulings of all golf fixtures, competitions and matches.


RELATIONSHIPS:             Captain, Secretary, Director of Golf, Savants Manager, Juniors Manager, Ladies Manager and outside bodies.



PRINCIPAL DUTIES


Liaise with the Secretary and DOG in conjunction with the compilation of the annual fixture list, including all league matches.


Ensure all competitions comply with the rules as stipulated and also the Rules of Golf.


Co-opt the assistance of Members, to be agreed by the Committee, as necessary to ensure the smooth running of all competitions, events and matches.
