Competitions and Handicap Committee
TERMS OF REFERENCE AND DUTIES OF CLUB COMMITTEE MEMBER RESPONSIBLE FOR COMPETITIONS AND HANDICAPS
Primary responsibility
The Chairman of the Competition and handicap committee will be voted into position at the AGM and hold the position for a three year period. After three years the Chairman may stand for re-election.
Reporting Line
The Chairman of the Competition and Handicap Committee will sit on and report to the Captain’s Committee
Terms of Reference
The Chairman of the Competition and Handicap Committee is responsible for forming a committee to ensure the efficient running of all golf fixtures, competitions and matches, and of the handicapping system.
Principal responsibilities of Competition and Handicap Committee:
- Liaise with the Captain’s Committee who are responsible for compiling the fixture lists for matches
- Liaise with the Director of Golf regarding all Club competitions and ensure all competitions comply with the rules as stipulated and also the Rules of Golf
- Create a policy for team selection and appoint captains and/or team co-ordinators
- Determine competition entry fees etc with the Secretary and Director of Golf
- Agree allocation of competition funds with the Secretary and Director of Golf
- Periodically review the policies and programme regarding rules, entry fees, etc
- Establish methods and procedures to discourage slow play, and co-ordinate with the Captain’s Committee on disciplinary measures
- Deal with any complaint resulting from competitions and / or matches and adjudicate when extensions are requested.
- Is responsible, with the Director of Golf, for the efficient operation of the handicapping system, including ad hoc and annual reviews as necessary.
- Agree on alterations to Scorecards and Local Rules with Director of Golf and Secretary in conjunction with the Captain’s Committee
- At all times promote high standards of etiquette and sportsmanship
